Hi,
I’m writing again, after a couple of years, to have your support to purchase a diamond for a necklace. Last time was for the engagement ring, this time because my daughter is about to be born!
Stated the above a few information about my search:
SHAPE: I’m thinking the pear shape, it is beautiful for a necklace. Pear or heart, which is more brilliant?
CUT: best available. I see that for pear shape the best available is very good, why?
COLOUR: G. This is my preferred choice, but open to suggestions; Please consider that a setting option could be with a little diamond pave around the main stone: should this influence the decision about color?
CARAT: 0,9 to 1 carat. As always: the bigger, the better.
CLARITY: no less than VS.
POLISH/Symmetry: excellent.
Other characteristics (fluorescence, depth%, table, etc. ): please advise.
BUDGET: 4-5k Euro.
Congratulations on your baby!
Regarding the shape, both pear and heart would be brilliant when properly cut and eye-clean. It’s up to you, which look do you like better?
Fancy shapes don’t receive cut grades (so the Very good doesn’t really mean anything), but we use our own very strict parameters to maximize brilliance on all diamond shapes.
G color looks absolutely colorless in most settings, so you don’t need to go higher than that. In fact, you could even drop one grade down, to an H and it would look identical.
For DEFG diamonds, you should get only none or faint fluorescence, for an H-color stone medium fluorescence is fine as well. For table and depth %, I’d stay below 72% for optimal brilliance.
Now, on to the diamonds. I found these lovely options:
Blue Nile LD13246799
Blue Nile LD13395498
They have nice specs and a beautiful shape. They’ll be very bright and brilliant.
At the end I would like to focus on a pear shape. Could you please provide me with a couple of options, also around 95 carats?
There’s not so many 0.95ct diamonds around so here are the best options I found in this carat range:
Blue Nile LD13478907
Blue Nile LD13277323
But if you look at the real measurements, you can see that they are basically the same size as the previous 0.9ct.
Ok I see, could you also provide an option for a 90 carat but G color?
Blue Nile LD13337178
Blue Nile LD13407505
I found an F-color for a slightly lower price than the G.
Why does the F cost less than the G? Are there other characteristics that influence the price? What do you think is better?
This happens quite often, the diamonds come from different suppliers and that’s why they have a different price even though they are similar quality. You can’t go wrong with either of them, both are excellent options.
Ok, I see the G has Excellent in both polish and symmetry, instead of very good for the F. Do these different count?
Excellent and Very good grades look basically the same. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have recommended it. As I said, both diamonds are equally beautiful options.
I bought the F diamond!
That’s fantastic news! I’m glad I could help you find something you liked so much.
