Hi there,
I’m looking to buy an engagement ring and was hoping you could help.
I’m looking for a diamond approx. 1 carat in size round cut. I would like a solitaire style platinum ring 6 claw with a fine band. My budget is approx. AUD$8,000 for the complete package.
I’ve searched just a little and found these diamond options. What do you think? And pointers on what I should be looking for?
As far as a solitaire setting goes, you can easily go with an I color and it’ll look fantastic.

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this one. The IGI lab is less reliable than the GIA.

This one is a no go due to strong fluorescence. It would most likely appear hazy in daylight. It’s also not very well cut.
Something like this would look much better in real life:

These diamonds are beautifully cut and have fantastic overall specs.
Thanks for your help, its a bit tricky when I don’t know all the things to look for.
I need to do some research about fluorescence, I know you mentioned it may appear hazy in the daylight but when I went to a local jeweler they actually used blue fluorescence as a selling point, were they giving me bad information?
The thing about fluorescence is that it can either be a bonus (it whitens the appearance of a diamond) or a negative (it makes the diamonds look dull and milky). Strong fluorescence is usually a problem on anything higher than a J color. In most cases, it saps the brilliance from the stone and makes it look hazy/milky in sunlight. Medium fluorescence is fine on <H diamonds, it can even help them look whiter. For G+ stones, only none or faint fluorescence is acceptable. You can read more about it in our article: https://www.diamonds.pro/diamond-fluorescence/
I think I have narrowed it down to this diamond:

This diamond is absolutely perfect, it checks all the boxes and would make an amazing ring. Great find!
I’ve placed my order.
Thanks.
That’s great news, thank you for letting me know!
