Q&A: Help Finding a 1 Ct. Oval Diamond for a White Gold Setting Within a AU$6k-$8.5k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi there,

I’m currently looking for an oval diamond to go into a white gold twisted/split band with either two light coloured rubies or ceylon sapphires on either side. I’ve been looking on your fantastic website for advice which led me to finding what look to be some pretty nice looking diamonds on James Allen in the AUD$6k – 8.5k range and would love it if I could run them by someone at your company or else ask for some alternatives.

The diamonds I’ve been looking at are:

www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.01-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-sku-10336946?a_aid=dmnd1357

www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.01-carat-e-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-8577208?a_aid=dmnd1357

Thanks for looking over the options I sent, it’s so useful to have an expert like you review them.

From your options I like:

Just so I can see the alternatives are there any H colour diamonds you could suggest or would you not recommend going that low on an oval?

All my recommendations are eye-clean. Keep in mind that the videos are extremely magnified and none of those tiny specks would be visible in real life.

H color would work as well, it would still look absolutely colorless. However, I found only one decent option that was cheaper than the other diamonds I’ve sent over previously:

Thanks for this H option, it looks beautiful. I’ve always steered away from fluorescence when filtering out diamonds- I can see this one has it marked as faint. What sort of issues might this cause, if any?

Fluorescence is a problem on high color grades – medium fl. on G+ diamonds and strong fluorescence on J+ diamonds usually causes haziness. Faint fluorescence is harmless and if anything, it’s a bit of a bonus that helps the diamond look whiter. No issues there.

Thanks for the advice and all your help in selecting the diamonds. I ordered the H yesterday – I can’t wait to see it!

That’s great news!
