Hey,
Looking to buy a diamond, $15-20k cushion cut.
Any help would be great!
I’m happy to recommend some options for you. May I ask what style setting you want to put the diamond into? And are you looking for a square or rectangular cushion cut?
Square cushion. And I am leaning toward a prong style setting. I do know she wants a thin gold band as well.
Something like this:
18K Yellow Gold 2.2mm Wire Basket Solitaire Engagement Ring
…
Change of plans. OVAL is the way we are going to go. As big as possible that is “eye-clean”. 3 carat I would like if possible around $20k.
The largest oval diamond I found that would look good is this 2.11ct:

It has a great cut and nice shape and the bow-tie isn’t too obvious.
Looks good.
If I was willing to go up on my budget. What would a 3 carat range be?
The price for a decent 3ct oval diamond would be close to $40k:

Wow big difference. Are some shapes more expensive then others? Or pretty similar in price per carat?
Diamond prices increase exponentially and once you are over the 2.00ct mark, the price goes up significantly. In general, the most expensive diamond shape is round cut. With other shapes, it depends. Picking out a good oval diamond is not easy (it’s actually a bit of an art) as most of them have a very prominent bow-tie. That’s something you have to avoid at all costs. Other aspects I need to take into consideration are the L:W ratio, inclusions, girdle thickness, cut and symmetry. So even though cheaper 3ct options exist, the one I sent over was the first good-looking diamond in that particular range.
Totally makes sense. I will do some thinking but may move forward with this 2ct one you found.
…
Is there anything else you could recommend slightly bigger than this – www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/2.11-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-7028323?a_aid=dmnd1357?
Keep in mind that the carat weight is not the size of the diamond, it’s its weight. Carat weight is not a good indicator of how large the diamond appears.
This diamond:

is, in fact, larger than this diamond:

and amazingly, very close to the size of this 2.50ct diamond:

Wow ok I see – good to know.
I’m sold then.
