Q&A: Help Finding a 1.2 Ct. Round Diamond with Around $8k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hello.

She wants a round shape and Ideal cut and doesn’t want the color to have any yellow and wants it to be white.

I think something bigger than 1.2 carat would work. She likes simple plain bands. Budget is ~$8k.

I think the link below is really solid.

Unfortunately, this diamond is not such a great option. It has medium fluorescence which might make it look hazy in daylight (and negatively affect its brilliance). For DEFG diamonds, only none or faint fluorescence is acceptable.

If she likes a simple solitaire band, you can easily go slightly lower in color (G, H or even I). It would still look absolutely colorless and white and you wouldn’t have to overpay for an unnecessary high color grade.

These two options are fantastically cut, eye-clean and either of them would be very bright and brilliant in real life.

I do like the one you suggested. Blue Nile LD13605806.

I hope my girlfriend will be very happy to receive this diamond.

If you were the one to receive it, do you think this is good or would you recommend anything else?

I always search for the best stone that’s currently available for our readers’ buck. I never recommend a “second best” stone (unless there’s a reason for it and the person I’m recommending to is aware of it). 99% of the diamonds I end up recommending are diamonds that I myself would love to receive (or at least see in person and admire their brilliance). I’m sure the G VS1 is going to be absolutely breathtaking in real life.

I made the purchase!

That’s great news! That diamond was an excellent choice.
