Q&A: Looking for a Round Diamond for a Platinum Bezel Setting Within a $7k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi! What do you think about this diamond with a platinum bezel setting (Blue Nile LD13345595)?
Thank you in advance!

This diamond is a fantastic example of an eye-clean SI2 stone. It’s beautiful and has a great cut. It would look amazing in a bezel setting. You did a great job finding it!

Could you please also advise on:

This one is unfortunately not very well cut, it would lose some of its brilliance.

Many thanks for steering me away! My budget for the stone is $7,000. I’d like a 1.5 carat, but I need advice about the color. I’ll likely wear this ring with my plain platinum wedding band, but I’d like the option to wear it with my channel-set emerald-baguette eternity band (from Tiffany, so likely G-I colored stones). I don’t want the diamond in the solitaire to look too yellow next to my eternity band.

It was a good idea to mention your other jewelry – if you already have a diamond wedding band, then I+ color is definitely the way to go for this new stone.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find any decent 1.5ct stones for up to $7k. The largest recommendable option I found was the following diamond:
Blue Nile LD12632957

Would I have better luck with an I-colored stone if I move my budget up to $8.000?

Unfortunately, a good 1.5ct stone would be closer to $9k.

I was getting a little crazy and out of budget.

Please be advised that I bought Blue Nile diamond LD12632957 today as a replacement stone.

Thanks again for your help!

The diamond you bought was an excellent option! It has a great cut and will be very bright and brilliant.
